A special two-day fundraiser in honor of a special label: WPKN celebrates Blue Note Records all day on October 26 and 27.

It was 81 years ago that a German immigrant and passionate Jazz Aficionado, Alfred Lion, produced his first recording session in New York City. The rest is history: Blue Note Records is one of the longest-running Jazz labels in the world. Its contribution to jazz recording is legendary for its breadth, creativity and quality. Current Blue Note president Don Was continues the tradition, in documenting today’s golden age of jazz and beyond. At WPKN we love Jazz, we love innovation, and we love quality. Blue Note has always stood for all three and we salute them with two days of legendary players, great music, wonderful stories and a bespoke set of premiums to help you celebrate and support your jazz radio station, now and into the future.

WPKN needs you and we want to make supporting us fun, swinging with great sounds and full of fascinating insights. Join us please for this joyous musical extravaganza!

Special thanks to Roz Chast, cartoonist for The New Yorker, who donated the original art for our WPKN limited-edition T-shirts.

I love music, but I don’t want to be just a jukebox. Hence, my show mixes up long, carefully arranged sets in multiple genres with segments that draw upon my journalistic background, including interviews with authors, experts in many fields, and musicians.

In addition to our spectacular hosts, above, we want to take a minute to thank our fundraiser tally-keepers, without whose help we would certainly be lost!
