Tidings from Hazel Kahan
This month Hazel Kahan’s guest on Tidings is Sam Pelts, principal coordinator of EXTRACTION: Art on the Edge of the Abyss, a multimedia, multi-venue, cross-border art intervention investigating the extractive industry in all its forms, from mining and drilling to the reckless exploitation of water, soil, trees, marine life, and other natural resources. The project incorporated all art forms, all happening at roughly the same time, with hundreds of artists spread across five continents addressing a single theme: “the suicidal consumption of the planet’s natural resources, the most pressing environmental issue of our time” as its website and catalog describes the project.
