  • Ubuntu Life Bracelet
Ubuntu Life started in 2011- formed by an American and a Kenyan who created a center for children with disabilities offering therapy and medical care. Nine of their mothers became the first group of ‘Maker Mums’ working with Singer sewing machines making simple items they could master. In 2012 Ubuntu Life began working with a group of Massai craftswomen in Ngong Hills. These women, the Maasai Maker Mums, create beadwork like the bracelets WPKN has commissioned. Now the full-time employment is over 80 people. They also provide part-time employment to 200 Maasai Maker Mums from the Ngong Hills, who bead our bracelets and dog collars. Ubuntu Life pays living wages and provides health insurance for all employees. Around half of the team in Kenya own their own land and house, in a country where less than 10% of the people own their own home. By pledging $60 for these WPKN bracelets you are not only helping WPKN but also providing the Maasai ‘beaders’ access to income in a way that is supportive of their culture and lifestyle.
