WPKN 89.5 FM Community Radio

Our Mission, at WPKN independent community radio station, is to strengthen and enrich our community through programming that is provocative, innovative, and free from commercial influence. Programming that promotes diversity, tolerance, and freedom of expression.

Founded in 1963 and located in Bridgeport Connecticut, WPKN is a 10,000-watt listener-supported community radio station broadcasting at 89.5 FM. We are also streaming live online here at WPKN.org, the TuneIn Radio app or the Radio Garden app. WPKN’s terrestrial signal now reaches to a listenership of 1.5 million people in Connecticut, Long Island, parts of New York and Massachusetts. Operating 24/7 and largely run by volunteers, WPKN offers a unique and eclectic mix of live and recorded music, news, public affairs, spoken word, arts & culture and other free-form programming which defy genre. We are proud to be listener-supported, commercial-free, community-driven radio available to the public at no cost, any time, day or night. We are here for YOU, any time, day or night.

Thank you to our generous friends who have supported WPKN in 2024 and throughout our 61-year history. 2024 has been a year of growth and community connection. Help us build on this momentum! In 2025, we will continue to provide great music, alternative sources of news and public affairs, and an expanded local daily news program that will allow us to better serve the communities in our listening area.

We have a $15,000 year-end fundraising goal with a $7,500 match challenge from generous donors.

Please donate today to keep this vital work going.

RISE UP AND CREATE!

We invite you to design a twelve-inch album cover inspired by the theme: “Anthems of Hope and Resistance:

SING LOUD and SING PROUD.”

As we move into 2025, many of us are struggling to find ways to “stand tall” amidst the external chaos. In response, WPKN is calling on its community of artists to RISE UP AND CREATE!  We invite you to design a twelve-inch album cover – real or imagined – in any medium, inspired by the theme: “Anthems of Hope and Resistance: SING LOUD and SING PROUD.”

This benefit exhibition is like an art show and record fair combined.

To participate, sign up by Sunday, January 7. Completed works must be delivered during the weekend of January 11–12.

Join us for the grand opening on Friday, January 17, as we unveil this inspiring exhibition, which will run through mid-February.

All proceeds support WPKN, sustaining the independent music and voices you love.
