1) Jeff Cohen, founding director of the Park Center for Independent Media at Ithaca College and co-founder of RootsAction.org, discusses his group’s response to the recent Supreme Court rulings striking down women’s reproductive rights, long-standing gun regulations, and environmental protections. He’ll offer advice on how progressive activists can take action on the multiple crises we face that include the fascist Republican party’s agenda of dismantling America’s democracy.
2) A representative of the group RiseUp4AbortionRights discusses their July 4th nationwide protests against the Supreme Court ruling on Roe v. Wade striking down women’s reproductive rights — and the role of activism and protest in this critical period when the extremist majority on the Supreme Court is undermining basic rights Americans have enjoyed and exercised for decades.
3) Bill Blum, a Los Angeles lawyer and a former state of California administrative law judge, discusses his views on recent Supreme Court rulings overturning Roe v. Wade and the New York State law restricting the carrying of guns in public in the case New York State Rifle & Pistol Association v. Bruen. He’ll also assess the hearings thus far of the House Committee investigation of the January 6th insurrection and failed coup attempt — and the likelihood that Trump and his inner circle will be indicted by the Justice Department for their multiple crimes against democracy.
4) Megan Fountain, an organizer with Unidad Latina en Acción, talks about the coalition of groups that are organizing locally, statewide and across the country to fight for women’s reproductive rights — and what can be done here in Connecticut to support women in other states where abortion has been, or will soon be criminalized.
Monday, July 4 at 8:00 PM and in the WPKN archive.
