1) Svante Myrick, president of People for the American Way and the former mayor of Ithaca, New York, discusses his views on House Republicans vote to remove Rep. Ilhan Omar from the House Foreign Affairs Committee, other recent actions by the new GOP majority, i.e. the Party’s removal of metal detectors that stood outside the House chamber, and the GOP plan to hold the debt ceiling hostage to force cuts to Social Security and Medicare. He’ll also talk about the national debate on the prevention of police violence.
2) Max Rameau, a Haitian-born Pan-African theorist, campaign strategist, organizer and author, talks about the brutal murder of Tyre Nichols in Memphis, the history of U.S. policing, the campaign to eliminate qualified immunity for police, community control of police departments, and the future of the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act.
3) André Robert Lee, a filmmaker, keynote speaker, consultant, writer, and educator, led a Civil Rights tour of four southern states for The Nation magazine — and is the executive producer of the film “The Road to Justice,” which documents the profound experience of meeting with and learning from the living heroes of the Civil Rights movement. He’ll discuss how the film captures the ongoing struggle for civil rights and the challenges in achieving a multiracial democracy.
4) Seth Freeman, President, 4C SEIU 1973 Union and Professor of Computer and Information Systems at Capital Community College in Hartford, CT, discusses his union’s recent actions re: opposition to CT Community College tuition hikes, and other issues his members are working on.
