Kevin Gallagher’s guest at 4:00 PM is Ned Sublette, an American composer, musician, record producer, musicologist, historian, and author. Sublette studied Spanish classical guitar with Hector Garcia at the University of New Mexico and with Emilio Pujol in Spain. He has written many critically acclaimed books, including “Cuba and Its Music: From the First Drums to the Mambo.”
Then At 5:30 Bobby Sanabria. Truly one of the good guys in the music world. Bobby is a percussionist, teacher, multi-Grammy nominee and leader of many talented Latin big bands over the years. His album “West Side Story Reimagined” won the Jazz Journalists Award for Best Jazz Album of 2019. Besides his band leader duties, Bobby is the host of the Latin Jazz Cruise on WBGO radio. Always pushing the envelope on musical genres with an energy that is never duplicated by his contemporaries.

We air our 2019 interview with playwright and author Octavio Solis. We spoke with him about growing up the son of Mexican migrants in El Paso, Texas. His book of stories based on that history is “Retablos: Stories from a Life Lived Along the Border.”
Then, a new novel from British novelist Freya Sampson, “The Lost Ticket.” It’s about an old man who looks for a young woman he met sixty years ago on a London bus — and the young people who join the search. The novel is one of those heart-warming but page-turning reads that makes you feel really good.
