First Voices Radio with Tiokasin Ghosthorse

Mark K. Tilsen is an Oglala Lakota poet and educator from the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation. At Standing Rock Mark stepped into the role of a direct action trainer and police liaison. Since then he has led trainings and teach in’s about the lessons learned from Standing Rock. Mark recently spent six months at L’eau Est La Vie Camp helping fight against the Bayou Bridge Pipeline which is the tail end of the Dakota Access Pipeline ending in Louisiana.

In the second half-hour, Tiokasin speaks with award-winning singer-songwriter and guitarist Cary Morin. Described as “one of the best acoustic pickers on the scene today,” Cary released his latest album, “Dockside Saints,” in August.

North Fork Works with Hazel Kahn

This month Hazel’s guest on North Fork Works is Matthew Daddona, 30, a poet and Southold High School graduate whose first collection of poems, House of Sound, has just been published by Wandering Aengus Press. Matthew talks about growing up on the North Fork, his writing practice, why he considers himself as much a writer as a poet and tells us about some of the poems in the book.
